The 5 Best Super Mario Bros. Games on the Nintendo Switch
The Switch has proven to be Nintendo’s best console since its legendary Wii. Not only is the hybrid console a great way to play your games comfortably on the go, but it has also amassed an impressive library of titles that encompasses Nintendo’s rich history. Of course, no Nintendo console is complete without some Super Mario Bros. games, and the Switch has some of the best to date.
In this list, we’ll be taking a look at the best Super Mario Bros. games on Switch available right now. Nintendo’s famed plumber has seen its fair share of action, and you can find him in almost every genre of gaming imaginable.
5. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
The “New” series of Super Mario games have been on every Nintendo console since the Nintendo Ds and has quickly become a fan-favorite. These games take some of the best elements from Mario’s classic adventures on the NES and translate them to modern consoles and speedier gameplay. The result is a nostalgic experience with a great multiplayer component.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch is an upgraded port of the game that was originally released on the Nintendo Wii U. It’s not a secret that the Wii U was a commercial failure, so Nintendo decided to launch some of its best games on the Switch. The result is the best New Super Mario Bros experience to date, as you can comfortably play multiplayer with your friends using the Switch’s handheld mode.
4. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Ubisoft’s Rabbids was the last thing we expected to see in a Mario game, but oddly enough, they fit perfectly in the Mario universe. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a great strategy game for beginners and experts in the genre alike: think of it as an X-Com Lite. The colorful graphics and entertaining characters are more than worth the prices of admission of this criminally underrated title.
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
The king of casual racing games is back and better than ever on the Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an upgraded version of the Wii U original, including a new battle mode and all of the original game’s DLC. This game puts racers from the Super Mario Bros. Universe in intense races that defy gravity.
With a huge roster of 42 characters, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the ultimate Mario Kart game. The game features some classic tracks that have been remastered to make use of the game’s zero-gravity mechanic. The new characters included in the Deluxe version of the game are Breath of the Wild’s Link and the Inklings from Splatoon, both very popular titles in the Switch library.
2. Super Mario 3D All-Stars
The latest Super Mario Bros. game on the Switch is a celebration of the plumber’s 35 years of video game history. Super Mario 3D All-Stars includes three classic 3D platformers from three different Nintendo consoles. Revive the origins of true 3D gaming with Super Mario 64, go to a summer adventure in Super Mario Sunshine, and finally embark on an epic space quest in Super Mario Galaxy.
This anthology comes to the Nintendo Switch for a limited time only: the game is planned to be discontinued by the end of March 2021. This includes the digital version of the game, too. If you have the chance, you should definitely consider picking up this piece of video game history, before it flies off the shelves forever.
1. Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey retains its title as the only mainline Mario game exclusively released on the Nintendo Switch. In this adventure, Mario must travel around the globe and beyond, once again rescuing his beloved Peach from Bowser. This time, however, Mario has the help of Cappy, a magic cap that lets him possess enemies and other objects to navigate the different stages.
Odyssey is a great game, one of the best we’ve seen on the Switch so far. It truly feels like it is a celebration of all things Mario, and an authentic love letter to fans of the series. That’s the reason why, even three years after its release, Odyssey still is the best Super Mario Bros. game on the Switch.
