Out today on PS3
Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty is out today on PS3 and it's free for those who own the PS4 version, even if they snagged it for free in last month's Instant Game Collection.
The upcoming Vita version will likewise be a free Cross-Buy bonus, developer Oddworld Inhabitants announced on its official blog.
This wasn't always going to be the case, however. "When the PS4 version of New 'n' Tasty was featured in March 2015's PlayStation Plus line-up, the PS3 and PS Vita versions were very much still in development (indeed, the PS Vita version still is) and so it was our intention then that only the PS4 version of the game would form part of the PS Plus system," the developer explained. "Developing the other versions of the game is not a simple, cost-free process, and takes time, money and considerable effort."
That being said, fan feedback convinced Oddworld Inhabitants to change its tune. "Numerous factors (including fan feedback) have prompted us to change our stance on this particular matter. So, if you downloaded New 'n' Tasty for PS4 during the PS Plus period, the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game will be free for download for you on release," the developer stated.
It's hard to imagine that many PS4 players who own New 'n' Tasty will choose to play this splendid remake on PS3, but the Vita version sounds like a pretty sweet perk for a game that seems well suited for portable play.
Once the Vita version of New 'n' Tasty is completed Oddworld Inhabitants is aiming to start work on a remake of Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus.
